JOIN RUNNING MEDICINE
Running Medicine is based on the understanding that running and exercise are beautiful and potent medicines for mind, body, and spirit. Youth coaches & parents work together to create a learning atmosphere so athletes excel in sportsmanship, hard work, teamwork, and FUN. Parents are encouraged to run/walk with their athlete as experienced coaches provide workouts to assist youth in learning about the fundamentals of running.
Running Medicine, along with USA Track & Field , are committed to providing a safe environment for athletes to train and compete. Each coach is an official USATF member that must complete the required SafeSport training and pass the NCSI background screen.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM Cross Country SEASON
- All RM coaches will have background checks and Safe Sport training.
- All distance runs will have a parent/coach at the beginning and end of the youth group.
- Each track work will have supervision and coaching of specific training groups.
- Coaches will focus on keeping each athlete motivated, having fun, and avoiding injuries.
- Coaches will work to build the self-esteem of each athlete who is a part of this team!
Expectations for youth who plan to compete
- Racing is a privilege – RMers must earn the right to race through attendance at RMs, great teamwork, and sportsmanship. We will not allow youth to run who do not meet these standards.
- We ask all youth to attend practice three times a week and let us know when you cannot make it. In addition, many of our runners will put in an extra 1-2 days of running outside of RMs.
- Come to practice prepared and ready to run.
- Stomach upset is common for runners, and the best way to avoid this is to have only light foods and water in the hour before practice.
Cost of Season
Youth running competitive (USATF) cross country meets - $20
- You will need to register your child for an additional USATF youth membership - $20
- The RM registration covers race fees for the USATF meets and an RM singlet.
Youth participating non-competitively- $20
- Reduced rate for RM races, along with many others that are free or low cost
Youth Practice
- Practices will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays; locations vary based on the day.
- Youth may run and train with us without participating in USTAF races and meets.
- As always, we encourage parents and other family members to run/walk!
